Dear Sir

Judge Chaskalson made some very important points about our criminal justice system. Criminals act with impunity because they can get away with crime.

While the country burns in the flames of murder, rape, child abuse, robbery, hi-jacking and burglary Mluleki George buries his head in the sand of gun control as the solution to all crime. Poised to waste more than 1 Billion Rand on the ideological belief that anyone who owns a licenced firearm is a potential criminal and must be regulated into obscurity.

The muddled workings of government is indeed wondrous when it has no money to pay police increases, purchase police vehicles or even petrol so they can patrol our cities, towns and villages. Yet is is truly serious about reducing the number of licenced firearms which it knows from statistics gathered are not responsible for crime. Knows and admits that the Firearms Control Bill will be ignored by criminals. Obviously catching criminals and protecting citizens from crime is not very high on governments list of things to do.
